Late August News
Friday, 31 August 2007
A short holiday has taken me away from the computer recently so apologies for this late post. The Flatters went very well and was a credit to all who worked to get it throught the weekend. Of the local crews who competed Eian Pritchard and Martin Jones had a quiet day getting back into the swing of things and were happy to finish 3rd in an improved Subaru. Chris Phillips accompanied Bernhard Charles once again in the TPF Escort and ended the day in a respectable 15th place overall. Wayne Palmer debuted his rear wheel drive Peugeot 205 but suffered engine problems.Phil Jones gave his 1 litre Micra an airing and despite a distinct lack of power gave many others a shock! The historic section was populated by Brian Dennis and Graham Richards, both in Minis, both non finishing! Brian had a torrid weekend mechanically but it was Graham who came away with a few stories to tell down the pub. After an indiscretion with a ditch on the first evening, Graham who was accompanied by son Stuart fought an ill handling car which made for many interesting moments. Unfortunately, on the penultimate stage a rear tyre is suspected to have deflated and the hapless pair became passengers on a trip across banks and ditches on the Burma Road. End of sports and back to the drawing board!!
The Mewla saw a couple of crews having a go, but not Chris Phillips whose driver is banned from entering after words with the clerk of the course 2 years ago!!! No forgive and forget there then, ho ho!!! Eian and Martin ended up in the winning spot after a good clean drive but it has to be said that the quality was not there this year which was a shame. Wayne Palmer campaigned a Rover 216 and Phil Jones his Micra but both retired with mechanical problems probably brought on by their enthusiastic driving!
